Cheryl Field's last handout, EMPLOYMENT TIPS & REFERENCES" 2015

Click for copy of Cheryl's
last handout for MEBO

It was only two weeks before I went on my vacation on June 3rd that I had corresponded with Cheryl, and now she's gone. We've had our share of intimate correspondences through the years in which both supported each other through our trials, and when illnesses pushed us down, we helped each other get back on our feet again to move forward in the MEBO Mission. Even though I know she is gone, she she still lives inside those of us who knew her. I know that if it is at all in her power, she'll be up there rooting for us until we find a cure.

Among many other contributions Cheryl gave to our community, it was Cheryl’s proactive involvement in Rare Disease Day 2012 representing TMAU sufferers, which introduced MEBO to the RareConnect leadership and brought MEBO towards membership with NORD and EURORDIS. Through these organizations, countless sufferers have found a community that offers support and guidance. With Cheryl’s seemingly endless personal inspiration and with her wealth of knowledge on Human Resource and employment issues, she has empowered many sufferers who up to that time had felt totally helpless. She did so much for our community, and many of her activities can be found in the MEBO Community Blog, under Label, 'Cheryl Fields PhD."

Many lives have been touched and changed for the better, thanks to Cheryl’s endless dedication to the well-being of others. Not only was she supportive and loving to her family, she was also loving and supportive to her other family, TMAU sufferers around the world. When Cheryl offered her services to MEBO, she kindly accepted the position that was immediately offered to her of Community Outreach Director. This position allowed her to take the free reign and she flew with it. She did not hesitate to put her name on the MEBO Blogs and websites inviting sufferers to call her if they needed someone to talk to any time of day or night. She was always encouraging us to never give up, and to be like her, “Dr. Still Standing.” Somehow, when she spoke these words, we felt that she was talking to each one of us individually. What a lovely spirit she had inside of her! What healing was done through her! Her light will always shine inside each of us whose lives she’s changed. Cheryl is still with us as we move forward promoting her cause.

Please feel free to write in the Book of Memories
for Cheryl's family

Our beloved friend and pioneer TMAU campaigner Cheryl Fields passed away on June 10

Cheryl Fields / DrStillStanding
It is with great sadness we hear that MEBO Community Outreach Director Cheryl Fields passed away on June 10, 2015. She was a much beloved member of the TMAU community, probably the biggest campaigner and pioneer of TMAU awareness, and our greatest counselor, giving her phone number online for many years to support all in need.

Her role as a pioneer of TMAU awareness cannot be underestimated. 10-15 years ago when those with metabolic malodor were internet nomads ending up on the few 'normal' body odor/halitosis forums there were, she was giving out her name, address and phone number. At that time perhaps only Cheryl and Arun were known names to the online community. Every post was done in an uplifting selfless manner. She attended any TMAU awareness campaigns she could, including the MEBO meetups and a visit to Washington, as well as appearing on TV and newspapers.

She is now at peace with her beloved daughter.

In this 2012 MEBO video funded by the community, we see her as she always was, supporting the community and  educating all about TMAU. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

HOSTED BY RARE CONNECT

You are most cordially invited to attend the 7th Webinar hosted by RareConnect on Sunday, October 20th. Our dear friend and MEBO Community Outreach Director, Cheryl Fields, also known in our community as Dr. StillStanding, gave a very interesting and thought-provoking presentation on "Seeking Employment" at the MEBO Annual Meetup and Conference held at Miami Beach on June 23, 2012. She touched upon the dos and don'ts of job seeking, from writing a résumé 21st century style, to the job interview experience, to on-the-job and work environment issues for sufferers of body and breath odor conditions. Her presentation aroused a very lively group discussion that captivated the full attention of everyone present. Due to popular demand, the presentation went beyond the allotted programmed time, as more and more questions were raised.

MEBO talks to US President on NORD Conference Call

As an Organization Member of the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD), MEBO was invited to a

Conference call with the President of the United States, Barack Obama, and the Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius

on Monday, September 16, at 1:40pm EDT to discuss the October launch of the Health Insurance Marketplace. Of course, as members of NORD, our focus will be on how this will affect Rare Disorders, including TMAU and other body and breath odor conditions. Our very own MEBO Community Outreach Director, Cheryl Fields, MBA, PhD (ABD), Human Resources Consultant, was granted a reserved space to join the call to represent our cause.

Our entire international community is most grateful to Cheryl for stepping up to represent us. We look forward to hearing her account of this experience, which will be posted in this blog. The MEBO goal to bring our cause to our political leaders has reached the highest levels in the US government, and I hope that good relationships can be established with this opportunity for future communications. We have reached great heights as an organized community with this opportunity, and we thank NORD for making it happen for us.

Cheryl, remember that you have our whole community praying and thinking of you on Monday afternoon, in camaraderie and support. All the best to you!

Hello everyone.

This is Cheryl Fields, I am living in Wisconsin now. I am working lots of hours and I am not available as much online or via the telephone. I just got back online since September 2012! I was so busy, I didn't have time to purchase a computer! Gosh!

Since April 5th, 2013, I am online again. You all can e-mail me at, cherylfieldskenosha@yahoo.com or call me (262)-764-0737, and leave a voice mail message, please repeat your number twice and state TMAU, so I will know what the call is regarding.

Keep your head up!

Remember it is NOT what happens to you, it is how you respond to it!

Very Sincerely,

Cheryl Fields, MBA, Ph.D. (ABD)

Welcome back, Cheryl! How wonderful it is to have you back with us again! For those newer visitors to the blog, Cheryl has been a very active member of our community, even before MEBO’s existence. Her contribution to MEBO as a US Community Outreach Director has been very much appreciated. Click on the link below where we showcase the fine work done by our Community Outreach and Public Relations Directors both in the US & UK.

Hello from Cheryl Fields

I have had the pleasure of receiving a phone call from our Community Outreach Director, Cheryl Fields, as she is settling into her new home and job in Wisconsin. She’s working hard, but loving it, though still dealing with the challenges sufferers normally face. She’s facing them like a pro. She is happy there, but misses our community, having been disconnected all this time during her move to another state.

Even though her internet service won’t be up and running until November, Cheryl asked that I write this post, notifying sufferers of her new phone number.

262-764-0737

She looks forward to the calls she receives from sufferers.

We thank Cheryl for her support and wish her the best in her new life.

Why difficulty obtaining employment

MEBO Research's Community Outreach Director, Cheryl Fields, recommends sufferers to read this article in Workopolis entitled, "Why nobody wants to hire you", by Elizabeth Bromstein.

Can't get a job, even though you look in the mirror and what you see looking back is pure awesome?

Here are 15 reasons why people don't want to hire you.
  1. You're not a magical renaissance machine willing to work for less than what you're worth.
  2. You don't already have a job
  3. You're not getting past the bots
  4. You aren't qualified
  5. You have a stupid email address
  6. You're late
  7. You lied
  8. You're not passionate
  9. You look like a jerk online
  10. You're lazy about your LinkedIn
  11. You lack confidence
  12. You're just a bad interview
  13. You don't follow up
  14. You're inarticulate
  15. You're just not likable

Each one of these reasons has a discussion paragraph that is very interesting, that Cheryl and I recommend as a 'must read' to anyone seeking employment. Thanks Cheryl for the heads up.

María
